What are we reading in our little school in 2011?
(to be updated as we go along) The ** books are the ones that I loved to pieces.
The Whole Family:
**
Bud not Buddy
by Christopher Paul Curtis Audiobook. I loved this book. Bud has such great manners and his mom was a great example of a hard working mom who left her mark. Though she only had 6 years with her son, she taught him well.
Kindergarten:
ABC by Dr. Seuss
These Are My Hands
by Bill Martin
**
The Luckiest One of All
by Bill Peet (A great book to learn about contentment.)
Star Wars Cookbook
(Interesting. You never know what Jack is going to bring home from the library. But he has now checked this book out at least 5 times and we have made allergen-safe, real-food, foods from almost every recipe now.)
**
How Things Work (Usborne Flap Books)
Love, love, LOVE these books. My girls could care less about them, my boy 'reads' it over and over again even though he knows it by heart.
See Inside Your Body
This book worked perfectly for the Us week "God Made Us Wonderful"
A House for Hermit Crab
by Eric Carle
Rigsby
by Beveryly Cleary (We listened to this on Audiobook and everyone loved it!)
The Story About Ping by Marjorie Flack
A House is a House for Me by Mary Ann Hoberman (How I love this book. I'm not even sure exactly why, but I do so love this book.)
Any and ALL of the Beattrix Potter stories. So perfect for reading aloud.
Third Grade:
**
The Sign of the Beaver
by Elizabeth George Speare (Love it. Definitely one we had to have for our own library)
Indian Captive: The Story of Mary Jemison
The Call of the Wild by Jack London
(free on e-readers)
Stuart Little
by E.B. White
Charlotte's Web
by E.B. White
Conspiracy 365
by Gabrielle Lord So far: May, June, and July. (We read Jan though April last year.)
Ginger Pye
by Eleanor Estes
Julie of the Wolves
by Jean Craighead George
All of a Kind Family
by Sydney Taylor
